What is Ashiatsu?
Ashiatsu DeepFeet Bar Therapy® is a western version of an ancient form of bodywork with roots that date back thousands of years from cultures across Asia, Africa, India, and the United States Pacific Rim. The term Ashitasu comes from the Japanese language “Ashi” (foot) and “Atsu” (pressure).
Ashiatsu is a massage technique that delivers up to 3x deeper pressure than conventional hands-on treatment. The therapist is able to maintain consistent deep and broad pressure in the therapeutic strokes because bare feet are used instead of pointed thumbs and elbows. Many patients experience a greatly reduced level of discomfort as a result of this massage technique. The therapist is supported by parallel bars that are suspended above the massage table for balance and to ensure client safety.
Ashiatsu therapy benefits are numerous. Bundled nerves are freed, the lymphatic system is detoxified, muscles are elongated, posture is improved, and pain decreased. Ashiatsu induces deep relaxation, decreases pain and inflammation, and creates a structural change in chronic soft tissue damage.
Because of the compressive nature of Ashiatsu barefoot massage, the modality may not be right for everyone. We are a Certified Deepfeet Therapist and have full knowledge of any contraindications for Ashiatsu. Contact us to find out how we can best address your needs.
